Meeting people on the internet is almost cliche these days, but a North Carolina woman refused to become another lame statistic. After getting dumped by her boyfriend who met her on Second Life (he did meet her in real life before dumping her...perhaps that was the wrong choice), Kimberley Jernigan drove up to Delaware to stalk and try to kidnap him. She waited for him outside his work and tried to get him in her car by gunpoint. That failed, so naturally she tried again at his home a couple weeks later.
"She spent four days finding out the victim's address and then broke
into her ex-boyfriend's apartment and waited for him to return, police
said.
"He suddenly notices the silhouette of a person standing
inside of his apartment pointing what he described as an object at
him," said Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. "He then notices a laser beam on his torso, and he runs out."Police found Jernigan's dog, Gogi, in the bathroom. The Irish setter/ lab mixed-breed dog was bound with duct tape."The
dog was making too much noise, so she bound the dog with the duct tape
she brought along to bound her ex-boyfriend," Navarro said."
She had a Taser, handcuffs and duct tape. Jernigan is facing charges on kidnapping and buglary, and possibly animal cruelty from the SPCA. One has to wonder if her "first life" M.O. was any indicatior of how she was in Second Life. It's always the innocent - in this case, Gogi the mutt - that suffer.
The moral of this bizarre tale? Don't meet people off the internet from Second Life.
